As one of Ireland’s leading supplies of Green Diesel, we are often asked about the differences between Green Diesel and White Diesel. To help customers better understand the different options and types, we have compiled the following Green Diesel guide.
Green Diesel Definition:
Gas Oil is often referred to as Green Diesel, Marked Gas Oil, 35 second oil or Home Heating Oil. Gas Oil is “marked” with green dye, hence the common name Green Diesel, the dye is applied for customs markings to distinguish it from Road Diesel (DERV) and it is illegal to use Gas Oil to fuel an on road vehicle.
Green Diesel Advantages:
Green Diesel is a clean, cost efficient and safe home heating oil.
Green Diesel Uses:
Green Diesel can be used in heating systems with an external burner and in shipping (for further details on marine please click here)
Sulphur Free Green Diesel Definition:
Sulphur Free Gas Oil (SFGO), which is also referred to as Gas 10 or Sulphur Free Green Diesel has a much lower sulphur level than standard Green Diesel (Gas 1000). It is often called Gas10 as it has only 10 parts sulphur per million. It is dyed green in the same way as standard marked gas oil; meaning it is illegal to use as a fuel for on road vehicles.
Sulphur Free Green Diesel Advantages:
Sulphur Free Green Diesel is better for the environment due to the low sulphur content.
Sulphur Free Green Diesel Uses:
Sulphur Free Green Diesel can be used for non-road mobile machinery as follows:
Farm equipment including tractors, harvesters, bailing machines and grain dryers
Construction equipment: mobile cranes, forklifts, excavators, cherry pickers, portable generators, quarrying equipment and diggers
